Today we were asked to make a coffee lift print. Using resolved instant coffee (with a ratio of 1 decent teaspoon to approximately 35ml of hot water) we painted it directly onto the bare copper plate. After leaving to dry, putting the B-I-G ground over the top and baking for 6 minutes in the oven the coffee could be removed by gently agitating the surface, the ground over the coffee would peel away leaving a blank space where the coffee had been. This is then placed in the acid bath for a short of time before being taken out and is ready the to print. No tone can be achieved this way so a spit-bite aquatint is the next move for this plate which I shall be completing soon so keep an eye out for the finished prints !
